Last year I did seventeen figurative photoshoots, and edited seventeen photo sets. That at least meant that I didn't fall further behind. But I also didn't catch up further. And since I always prioritize TFP shoots over ones I've paid for, those in the latter category have a tendency to languish for a long time.

This photoshoot got to a point of real embarrassment: October of 2020, yes, two years and three months ago. I really need to make an effort to actually catch up.

Anyway, it's finally edited! Petals and Pomegranates was a lot of fun to work with, very free spirited, very comfortable with her body, a trait I admire. We shot right at the end of the season at Snow Lake in Mount Rainier National Park, and given the lateness of the year the colors were fantastic (albeit starting to fade) and the crowds were small. The light was really tricky. I had planned to shoot in the evening for good light, but the truth was that in most cases the light was just super-contrasty -- bright on the cliffs and shadowed in the canyon, making it difficult to include both in the same image without using HDR, which doesn't look good applied to the human body.

Nevertheless, there are some great images here, and they got better and better as the evening progressed and the light equalized. My favorite photos of the whole photoshoot were the final dozen made just as the sun was dropping behind the Tatoosh Range. I mean, literally, we got to the final location, and I said hurry hurry hurry, we only have seconds to capture these last images, and Petals threw off her clothes and did some quick modeling, and my camera went click click click click click, and then the light was gone and the photo shoot was done. And those were the best photos.

So much of photography is exactly like that.
