I watch, on a regular basis, for Calls for Art that look interesting and along the lines of my photographic style. I saw one recently that intrigued me, a brand new publication called Lightreadings Magazine whose first issue was themed "The Psychology of Night."

"There is a certain psychology of the night. The night can be an incredibly suggestive time. Mystery, introspection, quiet or loud, and behaviors not abiding by the mainstream rules of the day, with the darkness useful for creating mystery or an unnerving atmosphere. Scenes we overlook during the day often take on a fascinating new appearance at night – in a literal or abstract way.

"More than 320 photographers from all over the world submitted work to our open call “The Psychology of Night”. Lightreadings’ editor in-chief Panos Kasimis -not participating in the selection process- received and distributed their work to the rest of the team. We each chose those works that we found most visually interesting and coherent, and suggested them to the rest. After several discussions and debates -often lasting several hours- and also taking into account the final format of both the exhibition and publication, we arrived at the forty photographers participating in this issue."

I'm honored to be one of those photographers!

A pair of photo shoots I did back in 2016 immediately came to mind when I saw this call: with Lillias Right, and a few days later with Mikki Marvel, at dawn in Seattle. I ultimately submitted seven photos from the session with Lillias, and Lightreadings Magazine published five of them.

The magazine is published bilingually in English and Greek, so I assume the magazine is based in Greece, though I can't find that information for sure. You can download the whole magazine on their website, and it's really interesting to see the many different interpretations of the theme. This'll be an interesting magazine to watch, going forward.
