Two more Photographic Society results to report: Luminus salon (India) and DPW Summer Circuit (Serbia).
Luminus first, because frankly, there's not much to report. Open Color, Open Monochrome, Portraiture, Women and Child, Nude, Photojournalism, and Street Life: 7 themes entered, including nude; and out of 28 images, one -- 1! -- was accepted. Just one, a rate of less than 4%! Average acceptance rate for these salons is between 28 and 35 percent by rule, so for someone to individually have only 4% is truly remarkable. In fact, it feels hostile.
India is not usually a country where I feel like there's significant discrimination against nude photography, and certainly not in this salon given that they had a rare "nude" theme. (Statistically, I actually do more poorly in the nude categories than in some of the others; maybe because some photographers submit their best nude images only in those specific categories?) So honestly, it's probably just (bad) luck of the draw. But it's hard not to take such poor results personally, especially when even some images that have been highly popular elsewhere not only didn't make the cut but also received poor scores.
The only image that was accepted was an entry in the "Street Life" theme.
The DPW Summer Circuit results weren't exceptional, but way better than Luminus: I had twelve acceptances in four categories and 3 judgings. 12/(4x3x4)=25%. Still below the average acceptance rate, but within the standard deviation. One of those images received a Salon Honorable Mention -- again, nothing exceptional, but still nice. Only one photo was accepted for the first time, though it got decent scores so I'm happy about that.
I'm really ready to have a truly positive result at a PSA salon again.
