Photos entered for consideration by the exhibition "Figures and Faces" at Las Laguna Art Gallery in Laguna Beach, California from January 6 to 29, 2022. The call for entries closed December 12, 2021. One of my photos was accepted for online exhibit.

"Las Laguna Gallery presents Human Faces and Figures.

"For this artist opportunity the gallery is seeking works that examine human emotions, faces and figures. Works can be representational or abstract."

My artist statement:

The human figure has been a subject of art since people first picked up tools to create it -- and with good reason. Our faces are our most expressive features, but our bodies carry our stories. This is why I prefer to photograph real people with diverse and often imperfect bodies, and why I choose not to Photoshop the skin into plastic perfection. My models have lived real lives, and the hardships and joys can be read on their faces and in their scars.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said that "the soul in man is not an organ, but a light... From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all." My task as a photographer is to capture light in the form of digital pixels; but my task as an artist is to capture a glimpse of the soul shining through. My work also strives to represent diversity in all forms, and to represent the range of human sensual experience. My photos have been exhibited in galleries and festivals throughout the United States and Europe.
